Financial Aids Scholarship Update

Several new scholarship opportunities have been recently received in the Guidance Office and we would like to make them available to students.  They are listed below.  If you are interested in receiving information on any of the scholarships listed, please indicate below.  Please call the Guidance Office of your own district public high school for information on local scholarships.

______Ron Sager Scholarship of Honor

Ron Sager was a 1965 graduate of Fox Valley Lutheran High School, a Vietnam veteran and worked tirelessly throughout his entire life in support of veteran benefits. He was killed several years ago in a motorcycle accident. His memory is being honored with the Ron Sager Scholarship of Honor.  Open to a graduating senior going into any branch of the Armed Forces active duty, Reserves or National Guard, any student pursuing a course of study that will lead to a career in public service (Police Science, Fire Science, Emergency Medical Technician, Nursing, Teaching, Peace Corp, etc.).  One-time $500 scholarship.  Deadline: Postmark no later than April 13, 2007.

 

_______Louis H. and Beula P. Haase Scholarship-Community Foundation

Applicants must be high school seniors who reside in the cities or towns of Neenah and Menasha, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, and have demonstrated leadership involvement in the school community and need financial assistance in order to pursue a post-secondary degree.  Three scholarships of $3,000 per year renewable will be awarded.  Deadline to Guidance is April 11, 2008.

 

_____  Margaret Ferris Scholarship for hard of hearing Students

Eligible students are high school seniors who are planning to attend a college, university or technical college who have significant hearing loss and use technology to hear. The scholarship award is $500. Deadline is April 1, 2008.

 

______   Ruth Williams Neabling and Richard Neabling Scholarship

Applicants must be graduating seniors and reside in the city or town of Neenah, the city or town of Wautoma or attend Wautoma High School. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrate scholarship, involvement in the school community, and need for financial assistance in order to pursue a post-secondary degree.  Preference will be given to members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Neenah and Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma.  The scholarship is $3,400 per year and is renewable for four years.  Deadline is April 1, 2008.

 

_______William R Nagel Scholarship

One non-renewable scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to a graduate of an Appleton High School who is pursuing an education at Michigan Technological University.  Candidates must be recommended by someone from high school and someone from the community. Deadline is April 1, 2008.

______  Nell M. Menn Scholarship

On an annual basis, provided there are qualified candidates, two renewable scholarships of $1,000 per year for four years of undergraduate study will be offered. One will support a graduate of an Appleton public high school and the other a graduate of one of Fox Valley Lutheran, Xavier or Valley Christian High School. Candidates for the scholarship must have attained a 3.0 GPA and intend to pursue a bachelors degree with a music major from an accredited college or university in the U.S.  Applicants must be well-rounded and be involved with musical programs and have demonstrated exceptional musical abilities with a strong desire to continue with a musical education after high school.  Financial need will NOT be a consideration.  Deadline is April 1, 2008.

 

_______Fox Valley Technical College Scholarships

Over 20 different scholarships are available to 2008 high school graduates. Deadline to FVTC is February 15, 2008. Scholarship materials can also be accessed at www.fvtc.edu/scholarships

_______Altrusa Club Scholarship

A $1,000 scholarship is being offered to a graduating senior of an Appleton High School. Students must submit a 200-300 word essay on “Why I Want to Continue My Education.” Deadline is March 21, 2008.

_______Kiwanis Club of Appleton Golden K Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating senior from Appleton North, Appleton East, Appleton West, Fox Valley Lutheran, or Xavier high school and reside in the Appleton Area School District.  The recipient of the award will receive $1,000 in support of a post-secondary degree from an accredited university (two or four year) or a technical college.  In addition to a “B” average, the scholarship recipient will be evaluated relative to financial need, participation in school and/or community activities and work experience.  One candidate will be chosen from each school to compete for the scholarship.  Deadline to Guidance is March 15, 2008.

______  Earl A. Heyrman Scholarship Foundation

Open to students planning to pursue a degree in Civil, Architectural Engineering or Construction Management. This is usually $1,000 per year for four years. Students must be graduating from high schools in Brown, Door, Oconto or Outagamie counties and plan to attend one of the following colleges: St. Norbert College, the University of Colorado, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Michigan Technological University, Marquette University, University of Minnesota or any school in the UW System. Deadline is April 1, 2008.

 

______  Appleton Downtown Rotary Scholarship

Candidate must be a 2008 graduate of one of the five Appleton high schools, be a resident of Appleton Area School District with plans to pursue an education at an accredited college or university. Candidate must be in the upper 50% of his/her high school class. Three $5,000 scholarships will be awarded. Deadline to Guidance is March 12, 2008.

 

   _____The Thomas H. Lutsey Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial assistance to needy graduating seniors for their first year of college who are interested in pursuing degrees that enhance rural communities. The scholarship may be up to four years. The scholarship award is $1,750 for the freshman year and can be renewed for up to four years. Each successive year the award increases. Preference will be given to students planning a career that will directly enhance rural communities such as dairy science, animal science, agricultural engineering, veterinary medicine and indirectly relating to agriculture management such as agricultural economics, biotechnology, computer science, environmental science, business administration and education. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have a satisfactory ACT or SAT test score. Deadline is April 1, 2008.

 

_______Health Career Scholarships

Appleton Medical Center Volunteers’ Scholarship – Three scholarships will be awarded with the total dollar amount of $13,000.

 

Emma Jacquot Scholarship for the Infant Welfare Circle of the King’s Daughter s -The total amount of this award over a four-year matriculation is $8,000.

Applicants for the above scholarships must be planning to go into a health care career.  These scholarships will only be awarded to applicants planning to attend a four-year or greater institution in the State of Wisconsin as a full-time student.

Deadline to Guidance is March 3, 2008.

 

______ Cellcom Scholarship

Open to high school seniors or graduates planning to enroll, or a student already enrolled, in a full-time undergraduate course at an accredited two-or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school during the 2008-2009 school year. Two $500 scholarships per Cellcom market or 12 award winners will be chosen. Applicants must be US citizens and be a resident of a state where Cellcom operates including WI, and MI. Winners are selected on the basis of academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.  Deadline is March 5, 2008.

 

 

 

______   Kaukauna Utilities Line Worker Scholarship

$500 will be awarded to one student from the Kaukauna service territory that is interested in attending one of the Electric Power Distribution courses offered by technical colleges in Wisconsin. A video about the course and work performed by a line crew is available upon request. Stop in Guidance for more information. Deadline is March 1, 2008..

 

______  Kaukauna Utilities Scholarship

This is open to high school seniors who reside in the Kaukauna service area. The  award will be $1,000 to a deserving senior who plans to pursue a post secondary education in engineering or some other technically related field. The student may attend a 4-year college or a technical college. Selection will be based on educational goals, grades, community service and need. If interested, see Mrs. Knoll in Guidance. Deadline is March 1, 2008.

 

______  Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

Seniors who live in the following school districts and attend one of the following schools, are invited to apply: Freedom, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Little Chute, Wrightstown, Xavier and Fox Valley Lutheran. Students must be planning to pursue a full time course of study at a college, university or vocational/technical school. Preference will be given to applicants who have a connection to the Chamber of Commerce either through their employer or their parent’s employer. Applicants must have a past or present work experience, which may include apprenticeships, co-op programs, summer work, part-time work or work in a family business or on a family farm. A minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5 is required, or students must have shown considerable improvement in academic performance. Applicants must have demonstrated community involvement which could include, school organizations, religious organizations, community groups, volunteer work or other involvement.

Deadline is February 29, 2008.

 

_______The King’s Daughters Wisconsin Branch Scholarship

Applicants must be graduating from a public or private high school in Appleton, Kaukauna, Menasha, or Neenah planning to attend a four-year private or public college/university in the state of Wisconsin. Award is $3,000 a year, which is renewable for four years. In addition, one-time grants may be awarded depending on the availability of funds. Basis for selection is 3.5 or better cumulative GPA, financial need, scholastic achievement and community and school involvement. Deadline to Guidance is March 13, 2008.

 

______   King’s Daughters Foundation of the Infant Welfare Circle of Appleton/Frank J

Sensenbrenner Scholarship

Open to high school senior students in Appleton schools and provides $2,500 per year for four years or a $10,000 total. Student must be in the top 20% of his or her graduating class and must attend Lawrence University, Marquette University, St. Norbert College or the University of Wisconsin System, and be enrolling in a program leading to a minimum, four-year degree. Basis for selection will be need, scholastic achievement, and leadership. Applications can also be obtained by going to the web site of the Community Foundation of the Fox Valley Region, www.cffoxvalley.org  or from the Guidance Office. Deadline to Guidance is February 25, 2008.

 

______ American Legion Thomas E. Kees, Post 496 of Sherwood Scholarship

This scholarship must be used for full-time undergraduate study at an accredited college or university. Applicants will be judged on overall academic achievement, extra-curricular, community and service involvement, and a written essay. Preference will be given to applicants associated with or located within the service area of Thomas Kees, Post 496. Deadline to Guidance is March 26, 2008.

 

_______Vietnam Veterans of America – Appleton Area, Chapter 351 Scholarship

 A $1,000 scholarship is being offered to a dependent of a U.S. Vietnam Era Veteran and a 2008 high    school graduate who is enrolled in a post-secondary school of higher learning. An essay based on an  interview with a U.S. military veteran from any branch of the service who served anywhere in the  world, engaged in any conflict or war is required. Deadline is March 31, 2008.

 

______  Frances Sawyer Hefti Scholarship

Applicants must be high school seniors whose permanent address is in the Neenah or Menasha School District and must rank in the top 15% of their graduating class.  The criteria for further selection will be academic record, character, and desire to further education. Deadline is February 28, 2008.

 

 

______  American Legion Auxiliary-Department of Wisconsin Education Scholarships

Applicants must be a daughter, son, stepdaughter, stepson, wife or widow of a veteran. Granddaughters and great-granddaughters, step-granddaughters, and step great-granddaughters of veterans who are Auxiliary members may also apply. Applicant must be in need of financial help to continue education, have at least a 3.5 GPA and be a resident of Wisconsin. More information and copies of the application can also be obtained by checking www.amlegionauxwi.org  Deadline for Wisconsin ALA Scholarships is March 15, 2008.

 

National American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships are available by visiting the National website:  www.legion-aux.org/  There are several scholarships available.

Deadlines vary from February 11-March 15, 2008.

 

______  William and Louise Lemke Family Scholarship

This is only the second year this scholarship has been offered. It was established by Dr. Monroe Trout and Sandra Lemke Trout in honor of her parents, William and Louise Lemke and their children, William, Janet and Sandra. It was set up for graduating seniors attending Fox Valley Lutheran High School. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000-$5,000 per year are being offered to a student(s) attending an accredited college or university full-time. Selection is based on financial need, academic ability to succeed in college and service to community, church and school. Deadline to Guidance is April 15, 2008.

 

______  Best Buy Scholarships

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors living in the US or Puerto Rico and must live within 75 miles from a US Best Buy Store. They must also have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the US or Puerto Rico no later than the fall of 2008.

Applicants must also demonstrate commitment to and involvement in volunteer community service or work experience. Apply on-line at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships  Deadline is February 14, 2008.

 

______Wisconsin Sheriffs & Deputy Sheriffs Association Scholarship

This award was developed to offer financial assistance to full-time students in Wisconsin Technical College System Criminal Justice programs.  Fourteen $750 scholarships will be awarded and winners will be selected on a competitive basis.  Any Wisconsin resident that is enrolling in a WTCS school, and has a course of study leading to a two-year degree in law enforcement, is eligible.  Deadline is March 1, 2008.

 

______ NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation Scholarship

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who are entering their freshman year at an accredited two-or-four year university, college or vocational institute in the fall of 2008. The student must demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative through examples such as: starting his/her own business; participating in organization such as DECA, Junior Achievement, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Future Farmers of America (FFA) National foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), among others; or through other initiatives. An officially established business is not a requirement. Students can apply online from November 12- February 11, 2008. www.NFIB.com/YEA 

 

______ The NFIB/Chantel Bartlett Young Entrepreneur Award

                Applicants must be female students entering their freshman year at an all-women’s college/university,

preferably Sweet Briar College.  Applicants must demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and initiative such as: starting his/her own business; participating in organizations such as DECA, Junior Achievement, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Future Farmers of America (FFA), National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), among others; or work through other initiatives. An officially established business is not a requirement. Applicants must meet or exceed recommended academic standards, using standardized test scores (ACT/SAT), class rank and GPA.  Deadline is February 11, 2008.

 

______  Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY 2008) Award Program

The award recognizes outstanding scholar athletes in grade 12 from high schools across the nation. twenty-five winners will each receive a $7,500 scholarship from the Milk Processor Education Program, an invitation to attend a SAMMY 2008 weekend at Disney, Orlando, FL and an opportunity to be pictured in a special congratulatory Milk Mustache ad in USA Today. Applications will only be accepted online at www.sammy.bodybymilk.com until March 7, 2008.

 

 

______ Wisconsin Society for Clinical Laboratory Science

A scholarship of $4,000 will be awarded to a high school senior who qualifies and is enrolled in a degree program in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science in a school in the state of Wisconsin, accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges or by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science. Applicants will be judged and awards given on the basis of scholastic accomplishments, extracurricular activities, written communication skills and character. Deadline is March 1, 2008.

 

______Wisconsin Cattlemen & Cattlewomen’s Scholarship

Available to any high school senior enrolled or planning to enroll  in any university, technical college, community college in the United States, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Agricultural Short Course Program. Preference will be given to students studying for an agricultural related major and to students attending a school in Wisconsin.  Ten $500 scholarships will be awarded.

Deadline is March 17, 2008.

 

______ Ellington Mutual Insurance company Scholarship

Two $500 scholarships are available for graduating seniors who are children of policyholders of Ellington Mutual Insurance Company. University and technical students are eligible. A short essay regarding your future plans is required. Deadline to Guidance is March 7, 2008.

______   US Bank’s Internet Scholarship Program

US Bank will award up to thirty $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend accredited two-or four-year colleges, full-time next fall. Scholarship recipients are selected through a random drawing process. Students can apply online at www.usbank.com/studentbanking   Deadline is February 28, 2008.

 

______  Burger King Scholars Program

                Open to high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2008 from the United States, Canada

or Puerto Rico. Applicants must have a 2.5 or higher cumulative grade point average, work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year, be actively involved with community service activities, and demonstrate financial need. Applications are available on-line at www.bk.com/scholars  Deadline is February 15, 2008.

 

______ Greenville Lioness Club Scholarship

Four awards of $1,000 each will be awarded to four students from area high schools that reside in Greenville (parent pays taxes in Greenville). Deadline to Guidance Office is March 15, 2008.

 

______  2008 Boehnlein Nursing Scholarship

An amount of $1,000 each will be awarded to four students from the Fox River Valley area that are pursuing Nursing Degrees. The recipient must be entering or continuing at a university or college, which has a recognized and fully accredited professional nursing program in the fall of 2008. Applicants must be a resident of Winnebago, Outagamie, Calumet, Shawano, Waupaca, Waushara, Green Lake or Fond du Lac counties.

 Deadline is February 29, 2008.
