Another option for students to receive college credit is the CLEP testing program. It is definitely worth investigation for most students in Honors English.
Generally, it is not quite as demanding as the AP English Literature Test. Most test are 95 questions that are to be completed in an hour and half. Some schools demand students complete a writing component as well. In my opinion, these tests are a bit more focused on specific areas of content. They enable students with passing grades to "test out" of specific college classes.
These tests are not offered at the high school, but are often offered at the college or university itself. Several local universities are listed as CLEP sites. (Check the link below.)
The cost of CLEP tests are $50. Students need to take CLEP tests tied to specific classes unlike the AP which generally satisfies the first year English language requirement. This means they may need to take one in composition and one in literature.
Each school handles CLEP testing according to their own guidelines. Some don't allow CLEP tests. As students enroll, it is important to ask your advisor from that school what their policy is and when the tests are offered.
