TENTATIVE DAILY SCHEDULES FOR 2007-2008 Along with this newsletter, you are receiving a tentative copy of your daily schedule for next near. "Tentative" means that changes may still be made regarding assigned courses and the daily schedule. IF THE WORD CONFLICT IS WRITTEN ON YOUR SCHEDULE, YOU SHOULD CONTACT YOUR COUNSELOR IMMEDIATELY.  A change in your schedule will need to be made. Other changes may need to be made based on final grades in such classes as math, foreign language, and English. Failed required courses must be retaken. Prerequisites must be fulfilled in some cases before senior courses can be finally assigned.

If you have a question regarding your daily class schedule for next year, please see me immediately.

The following reasons are not sufficient for requesting changes in the daily class schedules:

  1. To have periods 1 or 8 changed to have a study hall for personal reasons.
  2. To change to a different teacher who is teaching the same course or section of a course.
  3. To be in a class with specific friends.

Final Exam Suggestions:

  1. Ask your teacher what will be covered, what type of test will be given (essay, fill in the blank, etc.), how much the final exam will count toward your grade.
  2. Set aside time in your schedule for review and begin reviewing regularly as soon as possible.
  3. Anticipate the most likely questions to be asked. Ask yourself, "If I were the teacher, what would I want my students to remember?"
  4. Form a study group with a friend or two.
  5. Look up FVL’s website on the Internet, look at Guidance and from there "Study Skills."

Day of Exam:

·         Pray.  Prayer will not make Dallas the capital of Wisconsin, but it would certainly be fitting to ask the Lord to help you use your gifts to the best of your ability.  Ask that your test results accurately reflect the amount of effort you've put in over the course of the semester.

·         Get a normal amount of sleep the night before exams and eat a nutritious breakfast.

·         Good preparation -  Bring along books or notes for your next exam. If one exam is finished early, use the "extra" time for review.

·         Do a quick 15-minute review before the test if possible.

·         Try to answer all questions.  Normally you should have adequate time to finish.  Don't spend too much time on a difficult question.  If you don't know an answer, circle the number of the question and come back to it later if there's time.

·         Find out from the teacher when you can get your grade if you are anxious to know before the report card is issued.  A self-addressed post card given to your teacher and made out to you for grade and comments is a good idea.

CAUTION!! REGARDING INCOMPLETE WORK (Grade "INC" or "F")    Because of the risk of retaking a failed class, late work should be avoided at all costs. After June 8, Incompletes become a permanent "F's." Exceptions will be made only if unusual circumstances exist.  If you foresee being unable to meet the requirements for a course, please communicate with your classroom teacher immediately and make every effort to have all course work completed before final exams.

REPORT CARD    When you get your report card in early June, check it over carefully. If you have any question concerning it, contact the teacher or call the school to contact me.

HONOR ROLL AND RANK    The honor roll for second semester will be posted by the middle of June. Your class rank will also be available at about the same time.  Honor Roll certificates will be available in August or at the start of the school year.

INELIGIBILITY STATUS    If you receive a Cocurricular Ineligibility Alert with your report card, follow the instructions carefully.  Ineligibility status determined after Semester 2 ends continues until Wednesday, October 4, when the Academic Committee for Eligibility (ACE) meets to discuss appeals from Midterm 1 grades next fall.  An FAQ sheet regarding academic eligibility for cocurricular activities is attached to this newsletter.

GUIDANCE WEBSITE     The FVL website contains much useful information some of which is described below. To access it, search the FVL Web Site, click on "Guidance."

CAREERS    Do you want to know what the top careers for the next ten years are projected to be? Pick up the information sheet in Guidance. Prayerfully consider becoming a church worker (teacher/pastor). You may want to discuss this area with one of your teachers or your pastor and find out about their experiences.

It's never too soon to start planning for a future career. If you are unsure about what career you might want to go in, check out the Career link in the Guidance section of FVL's web page (www.fvlhs.org).

SUMMER SCHOOL  Are you going to pass all your courses?  I hope so, too.  If you think you may need to re-take a course (especially in math or English), perhaps summer school is your best option.  If you pass the summer course, you'll earn non-GPA credit.  Or you may take an enrichment course.  Please see me as soon as possible for information.  The Fox Valley Summer School Consortium (www.aasd.k12.wi.us/sumschool) runs from June 11 – June 29, for Semester 1 and July 9 - July 27, for Semester 2.  Class hours are usually from 7:45 AM to 11:45 A.M. daily.  Summer school dates and times for other school districts may differ.  Please check the Guidance office for details or the website.  Go to www.fvlhs.org, click on "Guidance" then "Summer School and Other Coursework."  Registration deadlines vary among school districts.  Attendance is mandatory for receiving credit.

COCURRICULAR INELIGIBILITY ALERT    If you receive a Cocurricular Ineligibility Alert form with your report card, follow the instructions carefully and meet all deadlines.  This is especially important if you are involved with cocurricular activities through the first weeks of school next fall.  Ineligibility status determined after Semester 2 ends continues until Wednesday, October 3, when the Academic Committee for Eligibility (ACE) meets to discuss appeals from Midterm 1 grades next fall.  An FAQ sheet regarding academic eligibility for cocurricular activities is attached to this newsletter.

PART-TIME JOBS    Check out the Job Bulletin Board in the Guidance back hallway. New jobs are posted as we receive information from employers. As you get your driver's license more job opportunities become available.
